The Arizona 4-H Youth Foundation
Help Support 4-H
The strength of our great nation is deeply
rooted in the ethics of our forefathers. Their
vision of democracy continues to serve as a beacon of light for all
who cherish freedom.
It is up to each of us to instill these values in our children.
They are the future of America.
When
Congress established the Cooperative Extension Service in 1914, it included
funding
for 4-H Clubs in a direct effort to connect public education to rural
life. 4-H clubs had been growing strong since 1902, and teachers found
that children were more willing to “experiment” with new
discoveries than adults. 4-H soon became an effective way to introduce
new agricultural practices to the family farm.
The
4-H emblem, a green clover with four white H’s, was originally
created in 1911.
White symbolizes purity. Green represents nature’s most common
color and represents youth,
life, and growth. The four H’s stand for Head, Heart, Hands and
Health.
At
the National 4-H Club Camp in Washington, D.C. in 1927, the 4-H Pledge
was
adopted. The phrase "and my world" was added in 1973.
“I
Pledge my Head to clearer thinking,
my Heart to greater loyalty,
my Hands to larger service,
and my Health to better living,
for my club, my community, my country, and my world.”
The
4-H Motto,“To Make The Best Better,” was adopted at about
the same time as the
Pledge, to inspire young people to continue to learn and grow... to
make their best efforts better
through participation in educational experiences.
By
the mid 1950’s, 4-H began to focus on the personal growth of its
club members. Life
skills development was built into projects, activities and events to
help children become productive,
self-directed members of society, by working and learning with caring
adults.
4-H
is all about, “Learning By Doing...” the intent is to do,
reflect, and apply.
These
core values of the 4-H program continue to shape the lives and dreams
of
our nation’s young people... and have helped make America strong.
But,
we need your help to solve a serious financial crisis!
In
Arizona, more than 130,000 children rely on the financial commitment
of
individuals like you and me to keep 4-H strong, relevant, and affordable.
Our
programs inspire young people to use their heads, hearts and hands in
ways
that make families, our community and our world a better place. Our
leaders help to
impart the values and work ethic we each strive to instill in our own
children.

Matching
Gift Companies
Your gift to 4-H may be more valuable
than you think! Your employer may participate in a Matching Gift program.
Matching Gifts are an easy and important way to expand the impact of
any contribution you make to the Arizona 4-H Youth Foundation. Simply
contact your personnel or human resources office where you work and
tell them you've contributed to 4-H and request a form from them. Complete
the required information and send it to the Arizona 4-H Youth Foundation
at PO Box 210036, Tucson AZ 85721-0036.
If your company isn't listed below, that doesn't necessarily mean they
won't match your gift! Sometimes all it takes is a request from an employee
for an employer to decide to become a matching gift company! If you
do work for a matching gift company, please note that it is up to you
to obtain the proper forms from your Human Resources Department and
submit them to 4-H. We thank you for taking the initiative to double
the impact of your gift in support of Arizona’s 4-H Kids!
