And one more change

As of January 15, 1996,
we'll have a new postal address:
Office of Arid Lands Studies
The University of Arizona
1955 East Sixth Street
Tucson, Arizona 85719 USA

Please make a note
-- and do stay in touch.

Beginning with the Spring/Summer 1996 issue (Number 39), The Arid Lands Newsletter will be available in three formats only:

1. On the World Wide Web
The Web version of ALN, which will most closely resemble the traditional printed version, will provide full text and graphics for those with full access to the Internet. Its electronic address (URL) will remain the same.

2. E-Mail Subscription
The full but unillustrated text of each issue will be available to those with more limited Internet or alternate electronic access by way of an e-mail subscription. The electronic mailing list will become active with publication of ALN #39 in the spring of 1996.

To subscribe, send this message:
subscribe aridlands-nl
to:
Majordomo@Ag.Arizona.EDU

3. Print Summary
For those without Internet or e-mail access, a four-page summary of the magazine will be mailed, free of charge, to those who request it. Please note: Our current mailing list will be deactivated after this issue of ALN is mailed, so it will be necessary for anyone who wishes to receive the print summary to request a new subscription. Mail your request to The Editor of The Arid Lands Newsletter at the new postal address (left).

We regret that this change will exclude some of our valued subscribers from the full-text version of the magazine, but the plain truth is that the Office of Arid Lands Studies no longer has the budget to print and mail a full-blown magazine free of charge to its subscribers. Rather than institute a subscription fee, which many of you have said you would be unable to pay, we chose this digital alternative to traditional publishing. Not only is it cost effective --making it possible for us to continue to publish -- but in the long term we hope to reach even more readers than we have in our first 17 years. We hope you will stick with us. -- JMB
