CALL FOR PAPERS

The Fall/Winter 1998 issue of the Arid Lands Newsletter will focus on the theme of CONFLICT RESOLUTION AND INTERNATIONAL RIVERS. This issue, Number 44, will be published in October 1998.

Fresh water is one of the most precious resources in drylands and, as we enter the 21st century, the potential for conflict over international rivers (and other international fresh water sources) is growing. Two of the most promising avenues for avoiding such potential conflicts are the development of new methods for water conservation and of new policies for water allocation. The focus of the next issue of ALN will be to explore ways in which these methods (and others) are being developed and applied in drylands around the world. The desired emphasis is on cooperation and achieving solutions rather than on the potential for conflict.

Proposals for papers, comments, suggestions for possible authors, suggestions for resources (web, paper, CD-ROM etc.) to be included, etc. are welcome. Please send your suggestions to Katherine Waser, Editor, Arid Lands Newsletter.
