Viewing the Kriging Output with the Postplot Program

Before viewing the kriging output with the Postplot program, it is useful to delete grid cells where no kriging estimates were made.  Null values are represented by the value 10e32 (a very large number) in GeoEAS.   So we select records where the kriging estimate is less that that large number.  Here all real estimates are less than 100.

The geoeas program to extract records from files is called dataprep. At the Dos prompt type "dataprep"

The Dataprep menu appears:

Choose File Operations and the Data Prep File Option menu appears.

Choose Row Extract and the Row EXTRACT FUNCTION menu appears (see below).

Choose "Files" and type in the .grd file as both the input and output file.  Say "Yes" to overwrite files.
Choose "Subsetting Condition" and toggle to the *percent_S variable for Operand 1, choose .LT. for Operator, and a value less than 10e32  (10 to the 32nd power) and greater than all possible values for the variable for operand 2.  Here I have chosen 1000, which is well above the expected high of 100 and well below 10e32.
Press Execute and the rows are extracted and written to the output file

Choose quit to return to the Dos Prompt.

At the Dos prompt, Type Postplot.

Choose the .grd file as the data file (1); choose *percent_S as the variable(2); highlight execute (3); and press return.

The resulting map suggests the possibility of a trend in the spatial pattern that will be examined further later.

Return to the main menu to see how to link these results to ArcView shapefiles for a better display in ArcView.

Return to previous menu.
