WHAT CAN ACT'S PERSONAL LEADERSHIP DO?

  • Encourage the development of personal qualities and skills necessary for one to influence their environment, family, and community for positive change.

  • Involves understanding the interactions between individuals and their environments and the impacts that can be achieved.

PERSONAL LEADERSHIP UNITS

  1. Knowing Yourself - Self-esteem and self-efficacy are very powerful feelings related to our well-being. We will examine healthy and unhealthy self-esteem, as well as self-efficacy, and the ways they affect our daily lives.

  2. Your Personal Best - As members of society, you come in contact with many types of people throughout your life. Some people you barely remember meeting, others you can't forget, for either positive or negative reasons. These people made an impression on you. This unit explores how you can make a positive impression by reflecting "your personal best."

  3. Values & You - To look at ourselves and our values, we must first understand the needs we all have as human beings. We can then examine our core values. We can then decide more purposefully how we want to live our lives and which roles, with their corresponding responsibilities, make sense in light of our values.

  4. Develop the Leaders in You - The term "leadership" is commonly defined as "guiding or directing." This unit focuses on learning to guide and direct your own life. Once you have reached a level of success in leading yourself, you may decide to pursue opprotunities to lead others.

  5. Communicating Clearly - Good communication is critical for healthy relationships. In this unit, we will learn the essential parts of effective communication and how they fit together.

  6. Getting to the Goal - This unit will take you through the science and process of setting and executing goals.

  7. Decisions, Decisions, Decisions - Making good decisions takes skill. This unit will take you through the process of making those good decisions.

  8. Advocating for Yourself & Your Family - Freedom of speech is one of the most important aspects of living in our society. Learning the art of advocacy can help us use this freedom to make a better life for ourselves, our families, and our communities.
