Public Service
The research faculty serve on advisory boards for the College of Agriculture's Cotton and Forage and Grain and Vegetable IPM groups, and also on the 1517 Cotton Board and New Mexico State Crop Improvement. The unit is involved in the State JTPA program and has been involved in training low-income youth for 7 years. Both staff and faculty are involved with the Vocational
Agricultural program at the Safford High School and have received special citations from the Safford Future Farmers of America organization.
Equipment at the Safford Agricultural Center has been used to fight fires, grade county roads and prepare race tracks in cooperation with the Rural Fire Department, Bureau of Land Management and the Graham County Fairgrounds.
The official weather records for the National Weather Service are collected at the Safford Agricultural Center. Weather information is provided to local radio stations, the Eastern Arizona Courier newspaper, to the State Prison and to private individuals requesting information.
Field Days are held to provide information to area farmers and ranchers, homeowners and educational groups.
