Environmental Information Document
(EID)

An EID is required for all new (after August 27, 2001) CAFOs (See definition on page 20 of the NPDES general permit, 107 KB PDF PDF file type icon) that intend on being covered by the Arizona NPDES general permit for CAFOs. The EID is a document generated by a CAFO owner which provides to ADEQ and EPA necessary information about a facility and its environmental impacts.

Required content for an EID is found in Appendix C (43 K PDFPDF file type icon) of the general permit. Sources of information are provided for operators on this website.

The EID process is unique to each facility.

An EID must be submitted to EPA at least 90 days prior to the operation becoming a CAFO. Collection of some information may take several months, therefore it is recommended that operators begin information collection early.

The contacts listed in the permit are no longer valid. For more information contact Jenny Mann at EPA at (415) 972-3512.

EID Process

The EID process can be unique to each operation. However, three models can show the range from the least problematic scenario to a scenario where an individual permit is required.

Scenario 1 is the least problematic scenario.

Scenario 2 is a more problematic scenario, but one in which the producer is still eligible for the general permit.

Scenario 3 is a more problematic scenario where an individual permit is required.

A description explains in more detail each of these scenarios.
