National Project WET Conference - APW staff and Maricopa Water Sustainability staff are off to New Orleans on June 15. It's not a boondoggle. No, this group will be working hard, networking, learning, and contributing to the national picture of Project WET at the National Project WET Coordinators' Conference, June 15 -19. One of the highlights of the trip is anticipated to be the all-day writers' workshop where participants will negotiate revisions to the Project WET Curriculum and Activity Guide.
Water Champions - Through the Water Champion Partnership, selected teacher leaders receive training in Project WET curriculum and the Understanding by Design process in late April. These teachers will receive resources and on-going support to develop water education that is grade level specific, integrates into their district curriculum and strengthens the district’s current learning objectives. The UA Water Sustainability Program, ASU Polytechnic Campus Science Education Program, Arizona Foundation for Resource Education, and the UA Arizona Project WET Program formed this unique Water Champion partnership in recognition of the fact that inspired teachers can be change agents in their districts and need extra support and resources to be most effective. See our Summer '08 Newsletter for more information.
Know99 - Know99 Television is the youth and education cable channel operated by the City of Phoenix. They want to help you "Grow What You Know." Know99 featured APW on two different recent occasions. First, in September at the World Water Monitoring Day at the Rio Salado Restoration Project in Phoenix, Pam Justice, Mary Ann Stoll, and a few of our awesome facilitators taught 75 high school students about macro-invertebrates and watersheds. See what Know99 had to say about that. The second feature highlighted the Water Sustainability Office's Water Audit Project. This project, based on the Arizona Conserve Water curriculum's activity by the same name, empowers students to positively impact water conservation at their school through hands-on, student-designed investigation. Thank you, K now99 forpassing the word.
