OUTSTANDING EFFORTS IN DEVELOPMENT AWARD
NOMINATION GUIDELINES

WHAT IS THE AWARD?

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Award for Outstanding Efforts in Development was created to recognize and honor outstanding achievements and contributions to fundraising efforts by employees of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). This award will consist of a plaque for the recipient(s) and a monetary award of $1000 to be made to the winner’s unit in honor of the recipient(s).

WHO CAN BE NOMINATED?

Any administrator, faculty member, classified staff or year-to-year professional in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, as well as a team or unit in CALS (except the Development Office), who has not received this award previously, is eligible to be nominated for this award.

WHO CAN NOMINATE?

Nominations of candidates for this award may be made by faculty, staff, appointed professionals, alumni, students, or other administrators in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Nominations for candidates who are not selected will be retained for future consideration by the committee for a total of three years.

INFORMATION TO BE PROVIDED IN THE NOMINATING PETITION:

It is incumbent on the nominator to do a particularly careful and thorough job of documenting the petition. Recommended information to include:

  1. Name of nominee(s)
  2. Narrative statement describing individual's (or group's) exceptional contributions in the following categories (the criteria):
    • significant contributions to fundraising efforts
    • development of innovative strategies for fundraising
    • efforts to mentor and develop faculty, staff and appointed professionals to aid development efforts
  3. Additional letters of support (2-4 letters maximum) may address:
    • development effort
    • innovative strategies
    • leadership

SELECTION PROCEDURE

Members of the selection committee will be identified by the Dean from the following: Dean’s Advisory Council (CALS elected faculty senators), representatives elected by the department heads and school directors (HODS) and county extension directors (CEDS), chair of CALS Staff Council, CALS elected representative to the Appointed Professional Advisory Council (APAC), and CALS Director of Alumni and Development. The committee, which will be chaired by the dean, will review all nominations and make their selection based on the above-mentioned criteria.

HOW TO SUBMIT NOMINATIONS

Send the original nomination packet to Dean Eugene G. Sander, CALS Dean's Office, Forbes 306, P.O. 210036, Campus. The deadline for submission will be announced periodically as it may vary somewhat from year to year.

SUGGESTED CRITERIA

The criteria address employee achievements related to fundraising that have an impact at the unit and/or college level in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT - Actions that constitute performance beyond expected standards, such as:

  • significant individual or team contributions to fundraising efforts
  • developing innovative strategies for fundraising
  • efforts to mentor faculty, staff, and appointed professionals to aid development efforts
  • creating extra opportunities to develop and improve skills and abilities in others
  • making special efforts to recognize excellence in others
  • leadership in unit or college efforts
