Making Spam Filters in Eudora
To enable Eudora to filter some of your spam, open Eudora
and:
- Open the 'Tools' menu (at the top), and choose Filters.
- Click 'New' near the bottom left.
- Now find something that distinguishes
a piece of spam (or a type of spam) from legitimate
email. For example,
many spam messages have the word "DEBT" in the subject
line, or "SALE" in the body of the email. Choose the
'Header' (such as From:, Subject:, or Body) where the
distinguishing word or phrase is found. Then place the
word or phrase in the field next to 'Contains'.
Note: It's a good idea to keep your distinguishing
word/phrase simple so that you can catch similar
spam with the same rule.
- For Action, choose
'Transfer To'. A long box saying "In" will
appear to the right. Click on that
box and
choose 'Trash'.
- You have made a filter. You can
create more by clicking 'New' again.
NOTES:
Eudora's filters will only apply to email that you download
in Eudora. If you occasionally view mail in Pine or Outlook,
you may wish to set up filters in those programs.
