This document will provide instructions for setting up your
modem-connected computer to the CALS server and allow you
to use applications such as Eudora, Netscape, Explorer, and
Telnet. This document is the main source of support for sLirP
setup. Please refer to this page before calling the Lab with
questions. If you get stuck we can answer general questions
for you over the phone or via email. Good luck with your
setup.
Setting up internet access through the College of Agriculture
and Life Sciences is easy. Keep in mind you must be faculty
or staff to apply for internet access. Let's get started.
Before you get started, you'll want to download the following
files.
win2k.scp
Slip800.scp -> use this script if you are connecting via
the 800 number.
You should save this file into C:\Program Files\Accessories
so that later when we install this new script, things will
be greatly simplified.
Click on the Start Menu, and
select Programs --> Accessories
--> Communications --> Network and Dial-Up Connections
A new window should appear. Double Click on Make New
Connection. This will start the Network Connection Wizard.
Click Next.
Now appears your Network
Connection options. Click on the second option labeled, "Dial-up
to the Internet"

Click Next
This starts the Internet Connection Wizard.
Click on the last option labeled, "I want to set up
my Internet connection manually, or I want to connect through
a local area network (LAN)"

Click Next
In the new window, click the
first choice, "I connect
through a phone line and a modem"

Click Next.
In the next window, you will be given the choice to select
a modem. If you're modem is installed correctly, it should
allready be selected in the pull down menu. If you cannot find
your modem, contact your modem's tech support for furthur installation
instructions.

Click Next.
Now that your modem has been selected, it's time to enter
the dialing properties and phone number.
For local Tucson access, enter in the number, 618-3190,
into the Telephone number field.
Go ahead and uncheck the box
labeled, "Use area code
and dialing rules".

Before going to the next page, click the Advanced Button.

A new window will appear
that controls the advanced setting of your internet connection.
At the
bottom of the page, click
the button that says "Use logon script".
Once the button is selected, the Script field will become
unshaded. Click the Browse button to find the script you
downloaded at step 1. (The address in the script field will
most likely be different than yours)
Click the "Addresses" Tab
at the top. A new set of fields should appear.

At the top is the IP address
setting. Click on the first button labeled "Internet
service provider automatically provides one"
At the bottom of the page
is the DNS Server settings. Click on the second button
labeled "Always use the following:"
For "Primary DNS server:" type
in 128.196.11.234
For "Alternate DNS server:" type in 128.196.11.235
Click OK
This takes you back to the Phone Number window, Click Next.
The new window asks for your username and password. This
is the same username and password to logon into your account

Type in your information and click Next.
This next step asks you
to name your connection. Any name will work. We suggest
a name related to the Ag College,
for example, "Ag
Connection"

Enter a name and click Next.

This new window asks if you want to setup a Microsoft Internet
Mail Account.
Click No
Click Next
Congratulations, you've finished setting up your account.
Click Finish to try connecting to the Internet.
When you're done using your connection, disconnect by right
clicking on the Computer Icon at the bottom right of your
screen,

Then click Disconnect.
