The altruism demonstrated by Norman and Frances McClelland embraces many areas of the UA, including agriculture, astronomy, business, women's studies, and the Steele Memorial Children's Research Center . Frances served on the Board of Institute for Children, Youth and Families, and she made a seed gift to the Institute in early 2000. Most recently, Norman and Frances made a substantial gift to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and the University has now named the new home for the Norton School in the College of Agriculture as McClelland Park in honor of the McClelland family.

In the naming ceremony which took place at the groundbreaking on May 16 th , 2006, Norman stated, “My parents came to America as immigrants in search of freedom. Freedom to make individual responsibility for their own lives and freedom from religious persecution. They joined a long heritage of scotch-Irish who came from Scotland . First to Ulster , Northern Ireland , and then on to America . We have a special bond with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Over the years our family and Shamrock have received the benefit of new ideas and products they have developed from cooling systems to crop genetics to disease control. When we heard about the new programs to be a part of McClelland Park , Frances , my sister, and I thought this was an opportunity to give back and say thank you to all at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. We are excited about this new venture and hope that McClelland Park will become a future hub of activity sparking new ways to improve agriculture, strengthening families, and to find innovative ways for American business to add value to consumer products and improve the lives of all citizens.”

For years to come, McClelland Park will be stood in recognition of the their caring regard for the children, the families, the communities and the land of Arizona and their legacy will be preserved through the thousands of future students who will study in a new building that will nurture their minds and their spirits, where they will gain the knowledge to become leaders in the field committed to strengthening families, communities and the marketplace.
