Osteoarthritis Study
Also known as the "Knee Study," this osteoarthritis study involves the implementation of a long-term, multidimensional intervention incorporating both an exercise and a self-management (SM) program in a sample of men and women between 35 and 64 years with early knee OA. The goal is to evaluate if the intervention will result in a significant improvement in physical function compared with each of the intervention components alone.
Primary goals of OA management are to reduce pain and improve functional ability and quality of life. Patient education and exercise are recommended as two mainstays of treatment. Thus far, there are only a few well-designed studies (most of them short-term), that utilize education, exercise, or both as an intervention making this study unique and important to the understanding of proper intervention for OA.
