Welcome to Climate-Rangeland Connections web site for Internal Communications
Climate-Rangeland Connections:
Building a Knowledge Center of Best Practices for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation on Southwestern Rangelands
We are a group of educators, extentionists, researchers, and stakeholders in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. We are using this web site for internal communications while we prepare a proposal to the USDA-AFRI-Regional Approaches to Climate Change Program Area.
Our efforts began with an application for a planning grant to USDA in May 2010 which was funded with $50,000 in September 2010. We are using the funds to cover travel expenses related to two Planning Workshops and for other expenses related to internal communications and support.
We completed our 1st Planning Workshop in early November 2010 and the 2nd Workshop is tentatively scheduled for March 2011. We expect a deadline of June 2011 for the final submission of the proposal.
The long-term goals of our project are to:
- Increase the capacity of Southwestern rangelands to support both sustainable livestock production and the sequestration of greenhouse gases,
- Increase the preparedness of sustainable rangeland livestock production systems for uncertain climate conditions in the future, and
- Increase society’s awareness of climate-rangeland connections and the needed human capital to manage these in the Southwestern United States.
