The College
of Agriculture and Life Sciences does a major revision of its strategic
plan each 5 years, with minor modifications made at appropriate intervals.
The last revision was effective January 2005, and anticipates major changes
in the way this and other universities will face the future. The plan
incorporates views of CALS faculty and staff, stakeholders, and administrators.
It is compatible with the UA strategic plan finalized January 2005 and
builds on the university focused excellence concept. Other
major features include the identification of five basic characteristics
of the future, six program areas, five goals, and five challenges. Because
of the anticipated changes in both our external environment and how we
adapt to those changes, the strategic plan incorporates guidelines and
principles rather than specific detailed and numeric goals. Implementing
this plan will cause some changes for CALS and its various audiences.
Specific issues related to change and how to deal with it are listed
below, as are a general description of the college, the UA focused excellence
concept, and how CALS is governed.
