Tip #30

Getting on listservs for help

I want to draw your attention to some listservs referenced on the Macromedia website. Currently they reference three lists, none of which are directly done by their company. I have taken the description from the Macromedia site.

  • CreativeNRG Web Development Community
This discussion group is specifically for users of Dreamweaver who want to discuss and learn about the effective use of Dreamweaver as an HTML editing tool as well as site management tool for Web sites. This moderated list. It is comprised of a talented and friendly community of worldwide Dreamweaver users who enjoy helping and learning from each other.
There is a digest version available, which means that all messages for one day are compiled into one message. I have participated in this listing and there have been in the past from 8-16 messages per day.
  • Dreamweaver Talk
Dreamweaver Talk is an email list for discussion on topics related to the Dreamweaver product from Macromedia. This list is owned and maintained by Blue World Communications, Inc. as a service to the Dreamweaver community. There is no digest version available.

To get more details about how to subscribe to either of these Dreamweaver lists, see the Macromedia site at macromedia.com/support/dreamweaver/ts/documents/dwmaillists.htm.

I have been on the first list and I found the questions range from very simple ones to more complex ones. People on the list seem quite friendly and willing to answer all types of questions.

There are also two closed lists on campus related to webmasters. If you are within the College of Agriculture, contact me about getting on the web-contacts list for College site managers. Notices for college persons who work on the web are sent out via this list. The general uaweb listing is a good resource for those of you who want to be able to talk with webmasters around the University of Arizona campus; the university wide listing has some 200 people in the list. Information about joining the University of Arizona webmaster list is found at uaweb.arizona.edu/listserv.shtml, but you should be a University of Arizona employee or student working on University websites to join this list.

These tips are created as part of a class on Dreamweaver Basics.
