Basic Web Images from Photoshop 7

Class Lessons

Lesson One: Basic Web Images
This lesson introduces you to the graphic formats supported on the web - primarily GIF and JPEG - and how each of these types of images are created in Photoshop. This lesson also covers resizing images, cropping, and rotating images; how to lock some of the colors to keep them from being dropped when making a GIF image; how to make part of a GIF image transparent; and how to make the background of a photograph transparent.

Lesson Two: Drawing and Painting Basics
This lesson looks at the difference between vector and bitmapped images and which "tools" in the ToolBox create which type of images. This lesson will include basics in drawing with a pencil versus drawing with a pen, using the paint bucket fill versus a gradient fill, creating text as a graphic, using the eraser tool and the history palette; using selection tools to select part of a photograph with a soft or blurry edge; and creating your own gradients.

Lesson Three: The Power of Layers
This lesson covers the concept of layers and why layers are so important when creating and modifying images in Photoshop. Layers are used when creating collages, buttons, adding text to existing images, adding borders and drop shadows to photographs and editing drawings created with vector tools. Unless you are just cropping and resizing images, you will often have to use layers when working with Photograph graphics.

Lesson Four: Special Effects
This lesson will include things such as adjusting the tonal range on a photograph, getting rid of a "color cast", special text effects, fixing a photo imperfection using the clone stamp tool, adding styles to buttons and other shapes, and creating graphics for rollovers. This lesson will include using ImageReady to create the coding for rollovers, although you might want to use your web editor program if your program supports this feature.
