Lesson 2: Comments for 6.0 Users The Pen tool functions differently Of the various features covered in Lesson 2, the Pen tool is the most different in version 6. When you click on the Pen tool icon in the Toolbox, be sure to select the icon in the Options bar for Create new shape layer. This icon is highlighted below.
Once you have selected this option, the regular pen tool or the freeform pen tool function in much the same way as in version 7.0; however, with version 6 all items you draw seem to be placed in the same layer. Unless you deliberately create a new layer (which will not be covered until Week Three), all "objects" drawn are added to the same layer. In a way, this makes it easier for you to make changes, like color changes. But then you have to remember to create a new layer for different parts of the drawing. The Type tool In version 7.0 the vertical type and horizontal type options are found off the main Toolbox. In version 6.0, once you select the Type tool in the Toolbox, these choices are found in the Options bar. Custom shapes Custom shapes is found on the Options bar in version 6.0, but there is only one set of custom shapes. Version 7.0 has many more custom shapes and "libraries" of shapes to pick from.
