The University of Arizona
Background information
Starting last spring, the Office of External Relations has been having discussions with University webmasters (through various meetings of the uaweb group). These web banners were presented by VP for External Relations Stephen MacCarthy at the Dean's Council in late October. The primary reasons for this common header are to facilitate identification of web pages as being part of the University of Arizona and to provide a link at the top of every web page back to the University homepage.
The gist of the policy
The banners are composed of a 42-pixel high strip at the top of the web page that is red, blue, gray or white and includes a particular UA logo (called by External Relations the A-Line Logo) which serves as a link back to the university home page. The six colors for the banners are shown on the Web Banner Downloads. The External Relations office is proposing a 2-stage timeline for adoption of this element: colleges, schools, non-academic departments and service units by Feb. 1, 2008; academic departments, UA committees, organizations and official student organizations by May 1, 2008. There are several specifications in the External Relations posted policy. You need to review this carefully.
Implementation plans
CALS has been following this project since it was first raised last spring and it is now time to incorporate this into all college-maintained pages. ECAT plans to add this banner to top-level pages for the college by February 1. In a recent memo to College department heads, Dr. Kaltenbach asked that all units in the college make the introduction of these banners a priority in conjunction with the next maintenance they have planned for their site.
