Publishing Faculty members are expected to author or co-author articles for refereed journals, books, and Extension bulletins, and to develop and publish computer programs, educational videotapes and/or DVDs. College of Agriculture and Life Sciences publications are peer-reviewed and offer another avenue for publishing. The Cooperative Extension Publications Procedures provide guidelines for submitting manuscripts to CALS publishing. The research and organization of the content as well as the involvement in the review process and ultimate publishing/production is professional development. Journals, Books, and Periodicals Extension professionals are encouraged to develop their own personal libraries of professional journals, books and periodicals in keeping with their professional interests and job assignments. In addition, many offices have small Extension program-oriented libraries. Personal library materials are the financial responsibility of the individual. However, journals, books and periodicals needed as resource materials related to programs may be purchased from county or state budgets with approval of the individual's supervisor. Such materials become the property of Cooperative Extension and should become a part of the office library. Books may be purchased at a discount from the University Bookstore by University faculty. In addition, books may be checked out of the University Library for a convenient length of time. Many useful journals and periodicals are also available at the Library. The Journal of Extension (JOE) is the official, professional Extension publication. The Journal serves as the in-house publication reporting research in non formal educational methods and program development. On this basis, it is applicable to all Extension faculty, regardless of their role and responsibility in the organization. |
