Work-related musculo-skeletal disorders (WMSDs) are common in very labor intensive production agriculture. Repetitive motions such as squatting, kneeling, carrying and twisting activities put workers at risk for WMSD's. Backaches and pain in the shoulders, arms, and hands are the most common symptoms reported by farm workers. These injuries can be disabling and affect worker's income and grower's profits. Preventing or reducing WMSDs will pay off for employers and employees.

Simple Solutions: Ergonomics for Farm Workers is a website by the National Institute for Occupational Health and Safety and includes basic ergonomics information and tip sheets for workers in agriculture. Some specific information for nurseries includes a lifting tool for carrying containers, a weeding stand for flats, a power cutter for woody plants, and a metered liquid applicator.
