Tuesday Morning Notes

December 21st, 1999

Happy Holidays. We want to wish each and every one of you best wishes as you spend time with family and friends. Hopefully you have time to reflect on the good things we have accomplished during 1999 and on the opportunities for the new Millennium. The next TMN will be January 4, 2000. Cheers!

* Over forty faculty, both on and off campus, attended a pre-Annual Conference session on "Charting The Future Directions of 4-HYD." I was very pleased and impressed with the excitement and commitment to family and youth development programs. The group reached consensus on some priority directions which were:

1. Come to agreement on our program philosophy; What is 4-H Youth Development?
2. Deal with the growth of the 4-HYD Program.
3. Clarify county and state 4-HYD office relationships.
4. Gain more resources.
5. Pursue effective relationships with University Attorneys and Human Resources departments.
6. Utilize technology more effectively.
One of the primary purposes of the conference was to create a positive dialogue which I believe happened quite well. The group has asked me to help clarify the scope of 4-HYD in Arizona. Therefore, the following statement needs to be made and heard: "Whenever any Cooperative Extension paid personnel or volunteer works with other salaried personnel or volunteers who work with youth, or works with youth directly in an educational program or activity, it is called 4-HYD".

* Congratulations to the following faculty recognized during Annual Conference by the various professional associations:
