Thanks to John Begeman, Rob Call, Dave Kopec, Bill McCloskey and Ron Walser for their presentations and dedication.

*The Dean's Administrative Retreat was held May 18-19. County Extension Directors and Department Heads/School Directors come together once a year for updates, discussion, and interaction. A panel discussed the May 1999 draft of the College of Agriculture Guidelines and Criteria for Promotion and Continuing Status and Promotion and Tenure. All County Directors and Department Heads have a draft; faculty input is requested.

* At the County Extension Director's meeting preceding the retreat, Corky Poster, College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture, led a discussion about the Community Planning and Design Workshop. The Workshop helps to fulfill the Land Grant Mission of the University of Arizona by making its resources available to meet the needs of neighborhoods, community groups, non-profit corporations, cities, town, and rural areas. He issued a request for proposals for those interested in working with the College of Architecture on community projects. If you have any questions or would like further information about this RFP, please call Corky at 520/623-1722 or e-mail at cposter@u.arizona.edu

*  Congratulations to Steven Crofts for receiving the 1999 COA First Quarter Idea Award.  Steven suggested that we use the "Meeting Maker" program to show room scheduling for all COA meeting rooms.  He received $100 for his idea. Gordy Johnson, Chair of the Idea Awards Committee says to "keep those ideas coming."

*  Arizona and Utah Affiliates of the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences present a professional development conference entitled "Evaluating Children, Youth and Family Programs", September 12-14 in Flagstaff, AZ.  Goals of the conference include:  a) provide current evaluation models to successfully measure programs impacts, b) share effective program evaluation methods and results, c) understand the national perspective and direction in evaluating children, youth and family programs, and d) develop skills in resource acquisition, portfolio assessment and social science evaluation.  For more detailed information, contact Patty Merk at 602/470-8086, Ext. 356, or pmerk@cals.arizona.edu

* The Public Lands Information Center is Arizona's only "one-stop shop" for recreation and natural resources information on all public lands throughout the state. A cooperative effort of the BLM and the Public Lands Interpretive Association, the center carries a variety of maps, guidebooks, reading materials and brochures on BLM, Forest Service, Park Service, State of Arizona, county, city and tribal lands. Find them on the WWW at http://www.az.blm.gov/

* Check out the web site http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov and you can view the Earth from the unique perspective of outer space. Here you can examine monthly snapshots (or global data sets) of our planet's surface and atmosphere. These data sets are the vital signs by which scientists measure change and gauge Earth's "health." By comparing and contrasting these data products, you will learn about the cause-and-effect relationships between Earth's lands, oceans, atmosphere, and biosphere. Here you will see our dynamic planet changing, as it happens, in near-real-time.
