Tuesday Morning NotesJune 15, 1999Dr. Bob Kattnig, Extension Livestock Specialist, has a position opening for a Program Coordinator to assist with the planning and coordination of various Extension program activities. The job description can be seen at the website Jobs Online at UA, accessible from our Cooperative Extension home page. * Janice Shelton of La Paz County has been appointed to the NEFE High School Financial Planning Program National Advisory Board. She is the only representative from a county level extension position. The High School Financial Planning Program reaches about 250,000 students in more than 3,000 U.S. high schools each year. The program is operated by the National Endowment for Financial Education in partnership with USDA's Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service, and involves nearly all of the Land-grant university based Cooperative Extension System. The program has become a hallmark of government and non-profit educational partnership, and has received considerable attention from consumer education organizations and the news. A recently completed systematic 18-month evaluation demonstrates that the program is effective in helping youth learn lifelong skills in money management. * On June 2, there were 4 events scheduled throughout the College of Agriculture: the 5th Annual Melon Field Day at MAC, the Spring Citrus Seminar in Yuma, an Aquaculture Meeting in Tucson, and the National Extension Symposium for Public Issues Dispute Resolution meeting, also in Tucson. Some clientele and faculty may have wished to attend more than one event. In order to avoid double (triple, quadruple) booking in the future, you are encouraged to check the College of Agriculture Calendar of Events prior to scheduling your field day or workshop, and then record your event. Let's try to avoid scheduling events on the same day for similar audiences. In case you haven't seen it, the calendar is located at: <http://video2.agforbes.arizona.edu:8080/calendar/> * Congratulations to Don Slack, Head, Ag. & Biosystems Engineering and the Southwest Indian Agricultural Association (SWIAA) who are the recipients of a one year grant of $85,000 from CSREES for a “Southwest Tribal Water: Allocation and Management” education program. The Ag. & Biosystems Engineering Department and SWIAA will be working together on this educational program. There is a good possibility that this project can be funded for an additional two years. Jack Watson and Woodie Winans were instrumental in developing the grant application. * Congratulations to Bruce Tabashnik, Tim Dennehy, and Yves Carriere for receiving funding from NRI-CGP for their grant, entitled “Genetics and Ecology of Pink Bollworm Resistance to Bt Cotton.” This project represents an exciting collaboration involving their respective field and laboratory programs (field-to-gene). * There will be several information sharing meetings related to the Desert Wheat Growers Cooperative, a regional grower-owned durum mill and pasta plant, at the Maricopa Agricultural Center during the week of June 17-23, 1999. These are important meeting for growers wishing to be part of the Wheat Growers Cooperative. For more information, please contact Woodie Winans at 520/669-9843. * Tuesday Morning Notes is now available on the Web. Check it
