The AGIC Annual GIS Conference provided a forum to meet GIS colleagues, to learn from, as well as, share experiences and expertise, and to help plan for a shared GIS future. The sessions demonstrated both the accomplishments and innovative uses of GIS technology in Arizona. George Ball, Robert MacArthur, and Craig Wissler (SRNR) provided leadership. Beth Tucker (Coconino County), Chuck Hutchinson (Arid Lands), Robert MacArthur and other faculty made presentations. My thanks to all for making this an exciting, visually dynamic experience. * The 1999 Women in Ag Conference, held on the UofA campus, attracted about 120 participants. Each year this event grows and gets better. The special speaker this year was Juanita Buschkoetter, who was featured on PBS as “The Farmer’s Wife”. Overall an excellent program and our thanks to Ruth Ann Fowler for her leadership in developing and coordinating the program. * Shirley O'Brien will be conducting an annual sabbatic leave conference call that has now been set for Wednesday, September 1 at 1:00 p.m. If you are interested in becoming a candidate for sabbatical leave in 2000, you will want to be "on-line" for this discussion. The purpose of the call is to offer suggestions for successful submissions and to discuss the requirements needed for eligibility. Contact Steven Crofts at 621-7145 or scrofts@cals.arizona.edu to sign up for the call. Teleconference dial-in information and an agenda will be sent out prior to the call. * A collection of research papers given at the joint ERS/Farm Foundation conference can be found in “Global Environmental Change and Agriculture”. This book offers a comprehensive perspective on the consequences of and possible policy solutions for climatic change. For further information, contact: George Frisvold (Ag. And Resource Economics) at 520/621-6269. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
