Tuesday Morning Notes

August 3, 1999

On September 10 and 11, 1999, the National Riparian Service Team, in conjunction with the University of Arizona, College of Agriculture, Cooperative Extension will provide training in Payson, Arizona. The workshop includes an introduction to proper functioning condition and grazing management for riparian-wetland areas.  The conference headquarters will be located at the Inn of Payson and the workshop will include classroom instruction, as well as field trips for hands-on training to Tonto Creek and to riparian areas on the Mogollon Rim near the Blue Ridge Ranger Station.  Sponsors for this workshop include the Arizona Cooperative Extension, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Rocky Mountain Experiment Station, The Nature Conservancy, White Mountain Apache Tribe, Hopi Tribe, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Arizona Land Department, Arizona Game & Fish, and Northern Arizona University. Enrollment is limited to 30 people on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registration fee for this Workshop is $40.00, which includes a brown bag lunch both days.  Call the UofA Cooperative Extension Office in Payson, 520/474-4160, for further information.

*  The Arizona 4-H Youth Foundation provided County Camp Grants to 15 counties/nations submitting requests for a total of $14,100.  Since not all counties submitted a request, funds were available for additional grants to counties submitting more than one proposal.  We thank these recipients for their outstanding efforts to conduct experiential education activities through camping programs.  The recipients for 1999-2000 are: Apache--Joyce Alves/Mike Hauser--Summer Camp--$800
