Tuesday Morning NotesAugust 31, 1999* Approximately 185 people assembled in Parker to celebrate Woodie Winans 35 years of leadership in Arizona Cooperative Extension. The Board of Supervisors for La Paz County, the Colorado River Indian Tribes (CRIT), and the guests showered Woodie and Janet with praise, humor, gratitude and gifts. Our Thanks to S. Sherwood Winans for being Woodie. * The 1999 V Bar V Ranch Explorers Field Day was held Saturday, August 28 at Mahan Park. More than 200 visitors, including state legislators, attended the event. Workshops examined the relationships of water, livestock, range, forestry and wildlife to sustainable rangeland resources. Thanks to Jeff Schalau and Bob Kattnig, co-chairs of this year's field day and to Dave Schafer, our new resident director. The new ramada, funded by the Arizona Advisory Council on Environmental Education was dedicated. A barbeque lunch, with our own V Bar V beef, was served. Thanks to Deborah Young and Randy Ryan for cooking the food, and the staff of Yavapai County for the extra effort. * Welcome to Dr. Maria Fernandez-Gimenez, specialist and assistant professor in rangeland science and management. Robert Casler has been contacted by folks in Nevada who want to use our manual there. Many thanks to Rob Call who championed the project and led the team, and Robert Casler who assembled, polished and published the Manual. * Reminder: RSVPs are necessary if you plan to attend either Focus Group meetings on county faculty peer evaluations. The First Session will be held on Thursday, September 9 from 10 A.M. - 2 P.M. in the Pima County Cooperative Extension conference room. Lunch will be provided to those faculty who RSVP by Noon on Tuesday, September 7 to Jack Roberts (jroberts@cals.arizona.edu). The second session will be held in the Maricopa County Cooperative Extension office on Wednesday, September 22 from 10 A.M. - 2 P.M. Lunch RSVPs for this meeting can also be made to Jack before Friday, September 17. More details to follow regarding the Phoenix meeting.
