Tuesday Morning Notes

September 28, 1999

Please welcome our newest staff member, Kelly Block, Applications Systems
Analyst in Extension Programs.  Kelly is filling in for Sheila Merrigan,
who is on leave of absence, and will also be working with Robert Armstrong
and Susan Gallegos to develop a database of programmatic information on the
web.  Kelly is a graduate of Michigan State University with a B.S. in
Agriculture and Natural Resource Education and of The University of Arizona
where she earned her Masters of Agricultural Education.

*  Rick Gibson (Pinal County) made an excellent report to the Arizona Farm
Bureau on the future of Arizona Agriculture (see the notes featured on our
homepage).  They thought the presentation was very good, and encouraged
such presentations in each county.  Rick will be sending the material he
used for the presentation to each county.  Thanks Rick.

*  During the CHAPS Advancement Workshop on September 21, 1999, outside
experts and workshop participants reviewed the successful implementation of
three pilot programs.  The CHAPS Vision is “Partnering for community-based
health promotion.”  The Community Health Advancement Partnerships (CHAPS)
is a coordinated, community-based health promotion collaboration addressing
community-identified priorities available to each Arizona county; promotes
the capacity of individuals, families and communities to increase healthy
lifestyle choices, and strengthens community leadership and involvement in
tailoring local health infrastructures to meet community needs.  The
Mission is accomplished through linking research, education, and outreach
efforts of Cooperative Extension and the Arizona Prevention Center, in
partnership with both public and private health and healthcare-related
institutions.
