Welcome Aboard to Darcy L. Tessman, Assistant Agent, 4-H Youth Development,
Cochise County Cooperative Extension, Sierra Vista Office. Darcy will
begin her position on Monday, October 30, 2000. She earned her Master of
Arts degree from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. Many
thanks to the Search Committee for all their efforts.
* I enjoyed attending the first meeting of the Environmental Economic
Communities Organization (EECO) in Globe on Friday, October 6, 2000. This
effort represents the collective energy and determination of a coalition of
the 5 Northeastern Counties (Apache, Gila, Graham, Greenlee and Navajo) to
regain the use of their natural resource base through a multifaceted,
informative approach to environmental education. This aggressive effort is
targeted at all sectors of our society. The EECO mission is: "Seeking to
Balance Environmental, Economic, Social and Community Uses and Needs On
Public Lands Through: 1) education of citizens, organizations, and decision
makers through information distribution, demonstration and multi-media
presentation; and 2) scientific investigation into the environmental,
economic, social, and community aspects of public lands management and
multiple use."
* We are pleased to announce that as of October 1, Robert Armstrong,
Support Systems Analyst, has a permanent position with Cooperative
Extension. Robert was hired two years ago to provide the technical computer
support for the development of APROL and continues in this position. Bob
Greenberg, Computing Manager, who has been on leave with the Army School
Age & Teen Project has elected to remain with the project for another two
years. Bob continues as a staff person at the University of Arizona through
this project on an Extended Temporary Employee (ETE) assignment, but will
not return to his former position with Extension. On Monday, July 24, 2000,
Alma C. Hobbs, Deputy Administrator, CSREES, presented Bob with a
certificate of appreciation to recognize his contribution to the USDA/Army
partnership for youth development. The citation reads: "For supporting the
4-H mission through your commitment to the USDA/US Army School Age and Teen
Project and for providing programming, training and technical assistance to
facilitate collaborative youth development programs on Army installations
worldwide." Other developments include Bob's recent marriage to Jiang Ying
on September 28 in Hawaii. Sometime in early Spring, Bob and Jiang Ying
will visit the University and deliver a seminar about his experiences these
last two years with this important Army project. We will keep you informed
of the dates. Our congratulations go to Robert and Bob on these changes.
