Congratulations to everyone involved in the Arizona Cotton Growers
Association's 57th Annual Meeting held on March 8, 2000 at the Sheraton
Mesa Hotel. Presentations by the following faculty were exceptional: Drs.
Tim Dennehy, George Frisvold, Hal Moser, and Jeff Silvertooth.
* Joyce Alves (Coordinator), Shirley Jo Taylor, Mari Wilhelm, Kim
Gressley, Jolie Graybill, Ruth Carter, Janet Paz, and Beth Tucker
collaborated to put together the Healthy Adolescent: Healthy Relationship
two-day conference which had 29 participants and volunteers from 6
different counties, the U of A Family Studies Division and The Institute
for Children Youth and Families. Background information about adolescent
sexuality and interpersonal violence and introduction of the "Safe Dates"
Curriculum were presented. The county teams are planning to go back to
their communities and help youth develop positive attitudes and skills to
insure healthy relationships and prevent dating violence using the
curriculum. County plans are in process and are due to the collaborators by
April 1. Most of the speakers were faculty members from the U of A Family
Studies Division, ICYF or Cooperative Extension. Congratulations for
modeling good collaboration between campus and county faculty, and
community volunteers.
* The Cotton Management and Fiber Quality Forum is scheduled for March 22,
2000 from 9AM-Noon at the Maricopa Agricultural Center. Sponsored by the
Maricopa, Pima, and Pinal County Cooperative Extension offices, plus
various vendors, this Forum features presentations by: Pat Clay, Steve
Husman, Jeff Silvertooth, Hal Moser, Paul Brown, Russ Tronstad, and Peter
Ellsworth. For more information, contact either the Pinal or Pima County
offices.
