* Congratulations to Kitt Farrell-Poe who received a blue ribbon for the "Household Septic System Education" tabletop booth display from the American Society of Agricultural Engineering 2000 Educational Aids Competition. The American Society of Agricultural Engineers presents the Educational Aids Blue Ribbon Awards each year in recognition of "outstanding effort and achievement in the development of noteworthy educational aids."

* In the late 1800s, a French grape grower applied a blue compound (copper sulfate and lime) to his vineyard to prevent pilfering. He found that his crop had less downy mildew disease than his neighbors -- and the first fungicide was discovered. Vegetable and cotton growers from central Arizona learned about historical and new fungicides, and how they work, at the 7th Annual Agricultural Production Short Course, hosted by Kai Umeda and Patrick Clay at the Maricopa County Extension office. Cooperative Extension is known and respected for great workshops such as this.
