* John Begeman, Pima County, is presenting the "Desert Gardening" show which airs each Sunday afternoons at 4:30 p.m. on our ABC affiliate, KGUN, Channel 9. He says the taping of the show was accomplished this summer over a three week period of time. Thirteen shows have been completed and will run through December 3rd. Additional shows are planned, probably 26 total for the year. The show is an effort to demonstrate principles and techniques of gardening and landscaping in the Southwest and of course the information given is our University researched-based information. The University of Arizona is of course credited on the program as is Pima County Cooperative Extension. The information is practical and is kept in relatively simple terms so that the majority of viewers can relate to it. The depth and practicality of the information reflects that provided in his weekly newspaper column. The show is comprised of five segments including: a 6 minute interview segment, a 6 minute demonstration segment, a 4 minute demonstration segment, a 2 minute tips segment and a 1 minute viewer mail segment. The interview segments are with local garden and landscape experts from places such as the Tucson Botanical Gardens, Tohona Chul Park, private firms, and University faculty. All shooting was done outdoors and at various locations. John was out of town for the airing of the first show on Sept. 10th, but has had many favorable comments from persons who did see the show. The show is sponsored by three local firms. It is hoped by the station that some of the shows may be picked up by other regional and national markets, such as HGTV. If you have any questions about the show, please contact John at 520/626-5161. Congratulations on a great informational program!

* About 20 University of Arizona Extension faculty members, and federal and state natural resource management agency representatives, gathered for "Doorways to Dialogue", a training workshop designed to address land-use conflicts and their resolution. This particular workshop, held September 13-15, 2000, examined the Endangered Species Act and the creation of a habitat-conservation plan.
