Darcy Tessman, candidate for the Assistant/Associate Agent, 4-H Youth Development position in Cochise County will be presenting her Seminar on the Web for all to see. Darcy will be presenting to the on-campus participants in the Marley Auditorium and to everyone else via the Internet. * Congratulations to the Bone Builders, Maricopa County staff (Sharon Hoelscher Day, Karin Park, Pamelyn Davison and Mary Conner) and Task Force members (including Dr. Linda Houtkooper, Dept. of Nutritional Sciences, Dr. Tim Lohman, Dept. of Physiology and Dr. Scott Going, Dept. of Nutritional Sciences/Physiology) for winning two Arizona Public Health Association's (AzPHA) Health Education awards. The Bone Builders Volunteer Educator training notebook/curriculum won FIRST PLACE and their public awareness campaign won SECOND PLACE. Representatives from Bone Builders will be presented a plaque and certificate at the AzPHA conference in Tucson, September 14. Great work everyone!

* Larry Sullivan, Associate Specialist, 4-H Youth Development, was recently appointed as the editor of The Probe, a monthly newsletter of the National Animal Damage Control Association. Congratulations Larry!

* 171 members of the public, staff, and volunteers attended the Annual V Bar V Ranch Explorers Field Day held Saturday, August 26, at Mahan Park. In addition to enjoying a day in the cool pines and a delicious V Bar V beef kabob lunch, participants were treated to presentations, demonstrations, and displays on topics ranging from dutch oven cooking to the history of and current events at the V Bar V Ranch. Dean Eugene Sander and Dave Schafer, Resident Director, welcomed the participants and Bob Kattnig moderated. Presentations included Remote Sensing on the V Bar V by Stuart Marsh, Noxious Weeds by Larry Howery, Jeff Schalau, Jim Sprinkle, and Chris Jones, Meat Science by John Marchello, and Food Safety by Sharon Hoelscher-Day and Marta Stuart. The majority of the participants were from Sedona/Verde Valley and Prescott, but a number also attended from the Flagstaff, Payson, and Phoenix areas. David Schafer, Resident Director of the V Bar V, has reviewed the evaluations which indicated that participants enjoyed the day and had a positive learning experience. Additional educational opportunities for participants were: Demonstrations: Watershed Activity, Dutch Oven Cooking, Ultrasound in Cattle, Plant Identification, Tree Aging and Height Calculation, and Soils. Displays/Posters: Arid Lands, Noxious Weeds, Food Safety, Climatology, 4-H, FFA, History of the V Bar V Ranch, Current Events at the V Bar V Ranch, and V Bar V Cattle. Congratulations to everyone involved in making this event successful.

* Mohammed Zerkoune, Yuma County will be presenting a Noon Brown Bag Seminar on Wednesday, September 6, 2000 entitled "What Does An Extension Agent Do?". * Invites are out to attend a Drip Irrigation Symposium on Tuesday, September 12, 2000, 8-12 Noon, at the UA Maricopa Agricultural Center. The future of water and possible management programs, drip system components and design, drip system tillage machinery, financing opportunities, installation costs, and on farm drip system payout projections will be presented. * Winning Edge: Nutrition for Fitness and Sport, October 27, 2000. Three locations, Tucson, Phoenix and Flagstaff. This interactive workshop is based on the "Winning Sports Nutrition" Training Manual and Video, developed at the UofA and selected by the NCAA as the nutrition component of their Life Skills training program.
