Tuesday Morning Notes

September 25th, 2001

* The Extension Specialists' Annual Meeting will be on Monday, October 8 at 9:00a.m. at the Water Resources Research Center, 350 N. Campbell. Discussions will focus around issues with food safety/security, academic titles, and budget, along with other items of interest. RSVP to Patti B. by October 4.

* The U.S. Water Conservation Laboratory (Glenn Fitzgerald of Phoenix ARS) and the Geospatial Extension Program (Barron Orr) collaborated with the Maricopa Agriculture Center (Bob Roth, Dave Langston) to host an exploratory meeting entitled "Precision Agriculture and Geospatial Technologies in Arizona". This informal meeting brought together 19 researchers and extension professionals interested in evaluating the potential for Precision Ag and Variable Rate technologies in Arizona. After sharing updates on relevant research throughout the state, the participants determined a statewide Precision Ag working group or committee should be formed to encourage collaborative efforts that encourage integration of research and extension. For additional information, contact Barron Orr, 626-8063, barron@cals.arizona.edu

*Mission statement of the Veterinary Diagnostic Center: Our mission is generally defined as "providing veterinary diagnostic services to the veterinarians and animal owners of the State of Arizona". However, our collective training and experience allows us to interact in unique ways with our colleagues on campus and with various groups off campus. Their outreach activities have also escalated with the addition of Dr. Peder Cuneo as our extension veterinarian. "I am always interested in comments from those outside the diagnostic laboratory that may have ideas with regard to how we can better utilize our resources." Feel free to contact Bob Glock at 621-2356.
