* Congratulations to Victoria Steinfelt who will receive the College of
Public Health Award for Commitment and Service. This award recognizes
those members of the Tri-University community and the community at large
for their commitment to the college and to public health as expressed
through continued uncompensated service to and support of the college.
Vicki will be honored at a COPH breakfast on April 20, 2001 from 8:30-10:00
in the Kiewit Auditorium.
* Dr. Chuck Hutchinson, through an Intergovernmental Personnel Act
Agreement, will assume responsibility as Acting Director of the
Applications Division, Office of Earth Sciences, NASA Headquarters,
Washington, D.C. for a one-year period. His primary responsibility will be
to manage the planned growth of this new division; he will provide
leadership in shaping all of its component programs, developing budgets,
and presenting them to NASA administration. In addition, he will be in
direct contact with Congress to ensure that the programs developed meet
their desires. This will allow him to gain a detailed understanding of the
planning and budgeting process of one of the primary sponsoring agencies
for research in Earth Sciences. Dr. Hutchinson's one year assignment
begins in May 2001. During Dr. Hutchinson's absence Dr. Stuart Marsh will
assume leadership of the Arizona Remote Sensing Center, Office of Arid
Lands Studies.
* My new administrative associate, Dotty Sherwood-Cooney, began her first
day today and is busy getting acclimated and acquainted in Extension. Drop
