* On Saturday, April 28th, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren and Casey
Family Programs will present "Building Families Together, A Community
Conference" at Amphitheater High School. Raytheon Employees' Rays of
H.O.P.E., Pima Council on Aging, Arizona's Children Association and
Amphitheater High School join as sponsors in this year's conference.
Registration will start at 8:30 a.m. and the conference will run from 9:00
a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This year, for the first time, Grandparents Raising
Grandchildren and Casey Family Programs have joined together to provide a
program that can provide information pertinent and helpful information for
any family raising a child they have brought into their home. Keynote
speakers for the conference are Judge Suzanna S. Cuneo, Pima County
Juvenile Court, State Representative Leah Landrum (D-23), and Curtis Cook,
Associate State Director for State of Arizona AARP. Tucson Pediatrician
Anna Binkiewicz, M.D., will close the afternoon session speaking on
"Building a Family Together: Tools for the 21st Century." The day's
activities will offer a number of specialized workshops designed
specifically for either adoptive families or for grandparent and relative

* Child Labor Safety. The U.S. Department of Labor will have a "Spring into
Safety" week at the end of the month that will focus on child labor safety
in agriculture. The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 sets federal standards
for child labor on farms. There are limitations for youths under age 16 for
when they can work outside of school hours and restrictions for working
with and around hazardous equipment or conditions. For more information

* The 2001 Desert Agricultural Conference "Back to the Basics" will be held
May 1 - 3, 2001 at the Sheraton Hotel & Conference Center in Mesa. For

* Southwest Indian Livestock Field Days, "Circle of Life", will be held May
2-3, 2001 at the Hon-Dah Resort in Pinetop. Contact Gerald Moore at

* The Southern Arizona Veterinary Medical Association and the Department of
Veterinary Science and Microbiology will present current topics from the
Department on Sunday, May 6, 2001 at the Marriott University Park Hotel,

* Mark your calendars for the 7th Annual Melon Field Day to be held on June
6 at the UA Maricopa Ag Center. Topics will include insect, disease, and
weed management, foodborne illnesses and good agricultural practices.
* The New faculty Tour will occur on December 17-19, 2001. The normal
January dates don't work this year because New Years day occurs on a
Tuesday and classes start on January 9, 2001. The welcome dinner will
happen on Sunday evening, December 16, 2001 with our Yuma ground reception
and dinner on December 17, 2001. If you are a new faculty and have not
participated, you will enjoy the experience.
