Rob Call (Cochise County) coordinated the concurrent sessions in Spanish for approximately thirty-five people and did a terrific job!

* The CALS Diversity Committee had a very interesting trip to Hon-Dah on May 2 and 3. There were eight members who participated in the conference agenda, the evening entertainment and several intense discussions. Joe Hiller and Steve Campbell were event organizers and Jim Chamie, Louise Canfield, Steve Crofts, Natalie Furrey, Esperanza Torres and Shirley O'Brien joined the conference in time for a Southwest lunch which included Indian Fry Bread, Mutton Stew, and Acorn Stew. They attended several sessions and in the evening attended a performance by Vincent Craig. In words and music he presented Native American family life and values both humorously and seriously. The committee (plus Matt Livingston, Hopi Reservation) discussed the program concepts for a CALS Native American Conference, Spring, 2002. As a part of the conference, Joyce Alves and Esther Hubbell organized a nine-station health assessment program. Over 250 people went through the stations which offered education and information about many aspects of health management. For more information, contact Shirley O'Brien.

*Congratulations to Dave Kopec for a successful Karsten Turf Field Day last week. Over 150 superintendents and Sports Turf Managers viewed research plots and greenhouse experiments. * The sights and sounds of the San Pedro River are yours at the click of a mouse. The Nature Conservancy and Intel have teamed up to create a website, "Explore the Last Great Places, " that is intended to inform and education about Earth's biological treasures and how to protect them. The site can be reached through www.lastgreatplaces.org. This website is the first in a planned series that will also feature other prominent natural areas.
