* Dean Pivo has announced the ability of Department/Schools to confer
permanent graduate faculty status to Extension Specialists and Research
Scientists. Be sure to check with your department head or school director
if you would like this “permanent” status. All new faculty will have this
information included in the letter of offers. Please read the 3D memo that
came out recently.
* Congratulations to the following Extension faculty on the following
personnel actions: Larry Tibbs, Kevin Fitzsimmons, and George Frisvold were
granted continuing status; Steve Husman was promoted to agent; Kim
McReynolds was promoted to agent with continuing status; Jim Sprinkle was
promoted to associate agent with continuing status; and Larry Howery was
promoted to associate specialist with continuing status.
* Congratulations to the organizing committee of the 10th Annual Desert
Horticulture Conference: John Begeman, Jack Kelly and Vicki Richards (Pima
County), Rob Call,

* Reminder: The 7th Annual Melon Field Day, Wednesday, June 6,2001 from
9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the U of A Maricopa Agricultural Center,
Maricopa, Arizona.
* In the fall of 2001, the University of Arizona College of Agriculture and
Life Sciences will offer a technical agriculture course in Yuma titled
“Yuma Production Systems.” The course provides an overview of agricultural
production systems in Yuma, and concentrates on vegetable production
