* Please join me in welcoming Matthew Summers who will begin as an Assistant Agent, 4-H Youth Development in Yavapai County on May 29, 2001. Matt comes from Flaxville, Montana. He is receiving his masters degree in Animal Science from Colorado State University. He will be housed in the Camp Verde/Cottonwood with the V-Bar-V agricultural center.
* Over two hundred people attended the Desert Agriculture Conference last week in Mesa. At the end of the conference The “Cross-Commodity Research and Outreach Program” (CROP) held their annual stakeholders discussion of “Where we are, and where we should be going”. Over fifty faculty, growers, PC’s, and industry representatives gathered to set priorities and discuss issues. *The First Family Fun Festival was a great success. Almost 90 Southwest Indian Livestock Field Days’ participants visited nine interactive displays ranging from sugar in soft drinks, osteoporosis prevention, diabetes management and nutrition for children. It was held in conjunction with the Southwest Indian Livestock Field Days at the Hon-Dah Casino on May 2.
*The Southwest Resistance Working Group and Arizona Resistance working Groups will take place May 14-15, 2001 at the University of Arizona. Insect resistance poses a major threat to the profitability of agriculture and the stability of integrated pest management in the southwest. This meeting is convened annually to foster pro-active identification and management of resistance problems. *Electronic class on popular web editor - Dreamweaver 4.0. Although there is no single editor being used in the College or on campus, a very popular one is Dreamweaver, sold by Macromedia. ECAT will be giving a free electronic class on Dreamweaver 4.0 basics, starting June 5 and ending July 17.
