Congratulations to Linda Block for receiving the 2002 Extension Award and to Victoria Steinfelt as recipient of the 2002 Established Leader from the Arizona Association of Family and Consumer Sciences 2002 Awards at their recent annual meeting.

* With the theme of "Native American Professionals in Outreach Settings," this conference is open to educators, students, faculty, diversity managers and any individual who want to become more knowledgeable about current Native American issues in Arizona. Invitations have gone to key contacts and organizations across the United States and Canada. The two-day event is sponsored by the University of Arizona College of Agriculture & Life Sciences Diversity Committee and American Indian Studies and will kick off with keynote speaker Cassandra Manuelito Kerkvliet, President of Diné College, who will tell her life story and set the scene for similar presentations. Diné College is a 1994 tribal college, located in Tsaile, AZ. Price: $65 (by 3/29) / $75 (after 3/29) / $25 for students. Registration is required. The event will begin at 1:00pm on April 11, including an evening dinner & mini pow wow, and conclude at 12:00 noon on April 12. All events will take place at the Arizona Historical Society, 949 E. * Our thanks to the many faculty who participated in the 59th Cotton Growers Meeting last week in Phoenix. Peter Ellsworth made an excellent presentation. Steve Husman, Harry Ayer, Alan Ker (Department Head, Ag & Resource Economics), Bob Roth, Dave Langston, and others participated.

* Thanks also to Bob Collier, Chel Moore (our temporary dairy program coordinator), Lance Baumgard (Assistant Professor, Animal Nutrition), and Steve Faber (Animal Sciences Farm Manager) who helped facilitate the 2002 Arizona Dairy Day in Phoenix last week. Over 700 folks attended this annual event.

* Pinal County 4-H is holding a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Faul 4-H Learning Center, Thursday, March 21 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Pinal County Fairgrounds. R.S.V.P. by March 19th to (520) 836-5221, extension 213.

* A series of workshops on 'Cross-Commodity Whitefly Management', designed to provide in-depth information about managing whitefly and its importance to Arizona's cotton industry are planned for next week.
