Tuesday Morning Notes

May 28, 2002

* Extension Administration is struggling with the planned budget cuts just like every other unit in CALS. We thought about cutting the $4500 allocation to Counties and the $5000 allocation to Departments per FTE but realize that for most county programs, that may be the only permanent state monies that can be returned. Thus we are in a catch-22 situation. We have decided to make Extension Administration cuts which total over $100,000 in the following manner. We will cut our business travel budgets by 20 percent, our operations budget by 15 percent and our program budget by 10 percent. We will not cut the budget for our enhancement grant program, nor for our in-service and reviews of programmatic efforts where we bring county and campus together, nor for our annual conference (we have signed contracts), nor for our state program coordinators and other leadership efforts. We have eliminated all out of state travel support (i.e. when we ask someone to represent us at national meetings and for travel of Association presidents). Our bottom line is to support programs and maintain quality team efforts here in Arizona.

* Congratulations to Dr. Lisa Lauxman! Lisa just received her Ph.D. Her major is Educational Psychology with a minor in Psychology in Program Evaluation Research Methodology.
