Tuesday Morning Notes

December 17, 2002

May each of you have a wonderful holiday and a happy and healthy New Year. May you enjoy family and friends during the holiday. The next TMN will be January 7, 2003. Cheers!

Thanks to Dawn Gouge, Jeff Schalau, and Carl Olsen for organizing and teaching the Integrated Pest Management training last week. This workshop provided 16 hours of intensive training to Extension Agents statewide. The in-service covered morphology and taxonomy, use of identification keys to order and family, spot identification skills for key insect species, and handling techniques using classroom instruction and hands-on investigation activities. Desired outcomes include increased knowledge and skills in insect identification that will allow agents to more effectively teach producers, Master Gardeners, and other Cooperative Extension clientele to understand the importance of correct pest identification in application of IPM principles. The training and subsequent interaction will also increase understanding and cooperation between county-based and department-based faculty.

Mark your calendars to attend the "Vegetable Seed Production Short Course," January 14 and January 28, 2003 from 8:00 am to 12 noon at the Cooperative Extension Auditorium, 2200 W. 28th Street, Yuma, AZ.
