83rd Western 4-H Round-Up "Bridges to the Future." There were over 1100 youth and adult participants from 37 states and two Canadian provinces at the Denver Western 4-H Round-Up. The events that make up the Denver Western 4-H Round-Up consist of livestock, meats, horse, and consumer decision-making competitions, and the round-up delegates. Four youth participated as state representatives: Victoria Peery, La Paz; Rebecca Gillin, Mohave, Megan Scott, Yuma, and Heather Vermeulen, Mohave. These youth attended this advanced teen leadership conference participating in workshops on Character At Work, The Power of Communication, event management, developing leadership profiles, building groups through ice breakers, understanding motivation, and cultural awareness and sensitivity. In addition, the youth toured the Air Force Academy where they had a session on Leadership and Ethics with a military law professor, Major Fernandez. All attendees participated in dances, trips to Casa Bonita, the Denver Stock Show, and a dinner playhouse. Congratulations are especially offered to the six Arizona 4-H teen delegates who competed at the 2003 National 4-H Horse Classic, Western Division, in Denver, Colorado. Anneka Bergstrand from Navajo County won 1st Place in the Individual Horse Demonstration Contest. The Horse Hippology team finished 8th Place among the 13 states represented. The Hippology team consists of Candice and John Killian from Yavapai County and Kelly Head from Maricopa County. Tara Hallan and Jadee Garner from Yavapai County competed in the Team Horse Demonstration competition and did an awesome job.

About fifty people attended the AZ. Crop Improvement Association meeting, Monday, January 20, 2003 in Tucson. Mike Ottman (Plant Sciences), and Steve Husman (Pima/Pinal counties) made presentations. Al Simons continues to provide strong leadership with this group. Thanks.
