Congratulations to Louis Carlo, Assistant in Extension, and Paul Baker, Specialist, and members of the Entomology Department for receiving the 2002 Outstanding Educational Award from the American Distance Education Consortium. Along with teams from the University of Minnesota, Virginia Tech and Washington State University, they received the award for developing an online pesticide applicator training program. The award symbolizes the Consortium's commitment to user-friendly information and University teamwork. Great job Louis and Paul!

Development Day will occur on May 1, 2003 from 10:00-2:30pm at the Maricopa County office. Lunch will be provided. The program will focus on developing and raising endowed funds for off campus administrative units. Bryan Rowland, Joe Leisz, Stan Farlin and several county faculty will be on the program. We will discuss endowments such as "naming" offices, rooms, armadas, landscapes, county endowed "chairs", endowed volunteer funds, and projects. Please mark your calendars. The University of Arizona's Water Resources Research Center (WRRC) presents Local Approaches to Resolving Water Resource Issues: What's Working, What Hasn't Worked, and Building on Existing Efforts, May 1-2, 2003 at the Prescott Resort in Prescott, Arizona. The 2003 Southwest Indian Livestock Field Days will be May 6-8, 2003 at the Hon-Dah Resort, Pinetop, AZ. Early-bird registration (before April 22, 2003) is $30, and $10 for student/youth. After April 22, 2003 registration will be $40, and $15 for student/youth. For more information: 928-871-7406.

Natural Resources Conservation Workshop for Educators, June 9-14, 2003. Explore the Great Outdoors in Mormon Lake, AZ. This unique workshop experience offers a "hands-on" approach to education about the environment. Participants will see how to turn the outdoors into an effective classroom and at the same time learn skills that can easily be applied to school grounds, neighborhood parks, desert areas, rangelands, and forests. Discussion is an important aspect of the week long camp. Educators are encouraged to share their own philosophies and teaching techniques. The Arizona Firewise Communities Workshop, Thursday, 16 October 2003, Tucson Convention Center. Participants will learn creative mitigation techniques for wildland/urban interface hazards, as well as basic Firewise home construction and landscaping.
