A conference telephone call/web conferencing will occur Monday, May 19 from 12:00-1:00 to review issues related to the county budget allocations and cost recovery. You have received the final versions of each. All faculty and staff are invited to participate, however only 20 phone lines are available, so please join as one line per county. Details will be faxed shortly.

Congratulations goes to Drs. Randy Norton and Lee Clark, Sue Martin (Graham County) and Jonie Burge (Safford Ag Center) for also receiving a Proposition 301 (TRIF ) award for "Water on Wheels - Development of a Mobile Water Laboratory/Education Center".

Congratulations to Hilary Cummings, Anthony Chavez and Ruth Carter who received an award from Communities in Schools for their partnership with the City of Phoenix's Neighborbood Block Watch program. The Villas After-School Program was honored as an excellent example of community collaboration and successful youth development. This program provided after-school educational opportunities for children living in the Villas Housing Project. Outcomes of this program include improved school performance, increased attendance and decreased disciplinary actions. Children in this program worked with staff from the Growing Roots Organization to design and paint three murals on the walls of Maricopa Cooperative Extension that teach the plant, nitrogen and water cycles. Funding for this program came from the City of Phoenix.

A Cooperative Extension/CLIMAS workshop is scheduled for May 29, 9-3 at the Swede Johnson Alumni Building. Discussion items include: Arizona Cooperative Extension climate information needs assessment; CLIMAS' ability to meet Arizona Cooperative Extension climate information needs; and plans to create a demonstration project for a Cooperative Extension community partners climate specialist education program. The Arizona Extension Water Quality program is holding a one-day Strategic Planning Workshop at the Maricopa Agricultural Center on Thursday, June 12 from 8:30 - 4:30. Jim and Shirley O'Brien are retiring after 55 years (together) at the University of Arizona. Jim, Professor of Music and Dance, College of Fine Arts, and Shirley, Associate Director, Cooperative Extension, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, are celebrating their years at the University with a "Thanks for the Memories" dinner party to announce the funding of the O'Brien Endowment. The event will be Friday, June 27 at SaddleBrooke's Mountainview Country Club, 5:30 p.m. There will be a buffet dinner followed by a musical video show. AAEA Summer Meeting and Cajun Cooking. June 9th, 12 Noon, Meeting Begins at Thunderbird Meeting Room in Grand Canyon Park; 12-5 PM, AAEA Summer Meeting and Professional Development; 5PM - 8 PM, Cajun Cooking with our own Cajun - Pat Clay; 9PM, Campfire Ring with Park Service Staff; June 10th, 9AM to 3PM, Park Service Staff Inservice Programs; Adjourn at 3PM. The cost of the summer meeting cookout is $15.00 in advance or $25.00 at the meeting, either with or without spouse, and promises to be a Cajun delight, thanks to Pat Clay. In order to get an accurate count of attendees at the cookout, advanced payment is requested and will save you $10.
