Tuesday Morning Notes

September 16, 2003

The Office of the Provost has experienced considerable change due to retirements and the new senior administrative structure and a pressing need exists to provide leadership for the general education course offerings for the upcoming spring semester registration period. To help correct these problems, Provost George Davis has asked Dave Cox to serve on a temporary basis as senior associate to the provost. After careful consideration, Dave has agreed to this new assignment through January 15, 2004. Although Dave and Anne Jones will be relocated to the Administration Building, you will still be able to use their existing e-mail and telephone numbers. During this four-month period, questions about courses, programs, student scheduling, etc., should be addressed to Assistant Dean Paul Kohn. Scholarships will still be handled by Dave Cox. Other items previously handled by Dave will be delegated to other members of the Executive Council.

Congratulations to Dr. Michael E. Matheron who received the "2003 Faculty Member of the Year" award from The Arizona Agriculture "100" Council during the organization's 2003 Spring meeting on June 19, 2003. The award was presented by Walter Armer, Jr., President of the Agriculture "100" Council, in recognition of "outstanding service to the agriculture community."

The First Kinship Kare Conference was held on Saturday, September 6, 2003. A team of seven KKONA advisory members and convener Michele Lytle noted that sixty participants included grandparents raising their grandchildren, agencies and schools. The conference began with a proclamation from Flagstaff's vice-mayor recognizing the efforts of KKONA. Evaluations indicated that agencies would share the information with their clients and that many grandparents want to get involved with the education and advocacy of KKONA. Over $4,000 in support from the community, individuals and agencies was raised. The KARE Center as well as Dr. Soyeon Shim attended from Tucson. Michele Lytle is a program assistant for Coconino Extension.
