The Maricopa County Extension office's EFNEP Second annual awards banquet
was held 10/17/03. Twenty-five agencies and collaborators of EFNEP were
awarded plaques for appreciation and jobs well done. Those receiving awards
for consecutive years of dedication to EFNEP received The Knowledge Award.
EFNEP staff were honored and given awards by Scottie Misner, State EFNEP
Coordinator, Deborah Young, Extension Director of Programs, and Stan Farlin,
Maricopa County Director. Special awards were given to extension faculty
for their outstanding dedication to the success of the EFNEP program in
Maricopa County: Scottie Misner, Deb Young, Marifloyd Hamil, Sharon
Hoelscher Day, Ruth Carter, and Joanne Littlefield. Ruth Jackson received a
bouquet of roses from her staff.
Coconino Cooperative Extension is a recepient of the Flagstaff Community
Foundation and funding partner GEOFUND awarded $5,000, to develop a
mentoring program for grandparents raising grandchildren. Funding will be
used to bridge fund the program coordinator, Michele Lytle ($4,591). In
addition KKONA (Kinship Kare of Northern Arizona) held a legal workshop for
grandparents that was provided pro-bono by an attorney Michelle Ratner who
is a collaborative partner. Grandparents indicated that they would hire a
lawyer, pursue custody, and a variety of other actions as a result of the
workshop. The next workshop sponsored by KKONA will be on understanding
grandchildrens' need and development.

UPCOMING EVENTS: October 31- The Walk Across Arizona Campaign 2003 - 2004 will
kick-off at noon on October 31 in the Lohse Room at McKale Center. The 16-week
walking program is being organized by the Community Health Advancement Partnerships
(CHAPS), a collaboration of Cooperative Extension and the College of Public
Health, in conjunction with UA Life & Work Connections. The individual cost
