Tuesday Morning Notes

December 2, 2003

I plan to conduct CED reviews and visit personally with all faculty and staff during the Spring. Our team approach worked well last year as we discussed the Report Card (now labeled Indicators for Success), the formula budgeting approach for counties and the Civil Rights Annual Desk Audit form. In subsequent years we will again pursue the team approach, but I miss meeting with each of you. Reading your APR and hearing about your programs helps me be a better and more articulate advocate for the system.

One hundred and twenty students and teachers from Yuma Desert View Academy attended the Third Annual Kids Field Day on November 18. Dr. Mohammed Zerkoune, Extension agent, Marlena Parrott, instructional specialist sr., and Whit Moss, Extension program assistant supported the event. Students had the opportunity for hands-on experience, learning more about plant diseases, insects, fruits, vegetables and water quality. They also enjoyed the bus ride to the fields. Presenters were Drs. Mike Matheron, plant pathologist, David Kerns, entomologist, and Glenn Wright, citrus specialist.

Compassionate Leave Transfer is needed for a Campus Ag Center employee who has been advised not to return to work until December 31. If you have any hours to contribute, please contact Tanya Hladky (520-621-3246, thladky@ag.arizona.edu).

CONGRATULATIONS: Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, Pima and Santa Cruz County 4-H club programs conducted the first Southeastern Arizona LEAP (Leadership Education Adventure for Pre-teens) camp. Fifty six campers attended the 2 ½ day camp at the Huachuca Oaks facility south of Sierra Vista. Special thanks to 4-H Agents and Lisa Lauxman , Mike Hauser, Anthony Chavez, Curt Peters and Liz Sparks for donating their time to present activities and mentor the teen planners. Thanks to all for helping make a great start to a new tradition!
