Tuesday Morning Notes

April 27, 2004

Cooperative Extension Administration supports professional development opportunities for all appointed personnel with Extension appointments. This year faculty can submit for funds up to $1,000. All requests must be submitted in writing in advance. Effective July 1, 2004, faculty must include with submission a three to five-year professional development career plan with yearly updated goals and plans of action. Basically, we want you to think about where you are today, where you want to be in 5 years and what professional development will help you. For discussion of the competencies needed for Cooperative Extension faculty, see the professional development website at: http://cals.arizona.edu/extension/profdev/core.html. The new policy is located at: http://cals.arizona.edu/extension/employee/travel.html#professional. If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Lauxman (621-7131, lauxman@ag.arizona.edu).

Needing some time to take a breath, enjoy the outdoors, fellowship with peers and brush up on your outdoor skills? Then join us as all Extension Faculty and staff are invited to participate in Navigating the Outdoors at Fool Hollow Lake Recreation Area http://www.pr.state.az.us/Parks/parkhtml/foolhollow.html just outside of Show Low. Experiential workshops include using GPS units, lake mapping, water based and new challenge activities, sports fishing, tackle crafting, camp activities, aquatic ecology, and more. Major emphasis will be on the enjoyment and camaraderie that enhances outdoor recreation and learning. Registration is due no later than May 12. Check out the website at http://cals.arizona.edu/pima/4-h/outdoor.pdf for complete details. For questions, contact Susan Pater, Jan Norquest or Mike Hauser.

Cynthia Flynn, Barry Bequette, Stan Farlin, Gerald Moore and Jeannie Benally attended an E-Commerce “Train the Trainer” Workshop in Farmington, NM. The workshop is part of a larger national initiative to fund Cooperative Extension as a partner in E-commerce training for small businesses and others. All of the conference materials that were presented and a photo journal of the workshop can be found at http://www.nmtabcs.com/ or http://www.businessjournals.com/artman/publish/article_411.shtml.
