Tuesday Morning Notes

May 11, 2004

About 45 administrators and 40 staff from most of the Extension and CALS units participated in a very successful series of diversity workshops held on May 5 and 6.  The CALS Diversity Committee, along with the support of Dean Sander presented various sessions during the workshops which included guest presenters Bea Brown (Equal Opportunity & Affirmative Action Office), Kim Nagle (Human Resources Organizational Consulting), Billye Foster (Agricultural Education), and members of the CALS Diversity Committee. These premiere workshops will be repeated regionally later this and next year with the goal of involving everyone in CALS, both on and off campus. Our thanks to Bobby Browning, Billye Foster and Steven Crofts (co-chairs) and the entire CALS Diversity Committee for an excellent presentation.

Carryover Reminder:  Contact CALS Administrative Services (Cyndi, Margo, or Sandy) before June 1, and they will assist you in working out a plan to manage remaining budgeted funds. If it is determined that funds cannot be expended within the unit, CALS will take back whatever budgeted monies will not be expended, and use those monies at the college level to meet our commitments in the current fiscal year. Then, in the next fiscal year, we will provide an equal amount of temporary monies to the unit. Note that CALS Administrative Services will work with the unit to develop a strategy, but preparing the Request for Budget Change to return the money to the college is the unit's responsibility, and all funds must be returned prior to June 15. The entire carryover policy is located at: http://ag.arizona.edu/aas/home/carryoverprocedure04.htm

ERE reminder: continue to use the current (FY04) ERE rates in grant proposals even if they are for next fiscal year. The proposed rates for FY05 have not yet been approved. This will be discussed in greater detail on the staff conference call on Friday, May 14.
